What types of wood do you use for deck construction?
Typically, the framing structure is built using pressure treated Hemlock-Fir. PT wood is very commonly used for structural builds as it is moisture resistant, and sturdy.
Decking and fascia are almost always Western Red Cedar. It offers natural beauty, durability, and resistance to many things we encounter in the PNW. However, we are always open to trying new decking materials as species like mahogany and IPE make great choices for your new deck as well.
How long does it typically take to build a cedar deck?
Time spent building a deck depends on many factors. We consider size, design, terrain, and weather when we assess new projects. Included with your FREE quote is an estimated timeframe of when we expect to have your project completed.
I’ve heard cedar decks require a lot of maintenance. Is that true?
Yes and no. The amount of maintenance you put into your cedar deck depends on the appearance you want to maintain. Clear-coated or raw cedar naturally fades to a beautiful silver color due to the sun’s UV rays. Some people prefer this low-maintenance method.
However, to maintain the woods’ natural reddish-gold color, or a different color of your choosing, you need to restain the boards often. Depending on the location of your deck, this may need to happen once a year or every other year. This requires cleaning the deck surface, stripping the existing stain (if you’re changing colors), and other intensive labor depending on your scenario.
